Registration for summer shelter certificate and Masters degree programs opens Monday, March 27!

Do you want to grow your skills in the field of animal sheltering or shelter medicine? Do you currently work full-time, or live outside of the Gainesville area? Then the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Online Program was designed for you, through a partnership with the UF College of Veterinary Medicine and Maddie’s Fund®.

The program includes both an online graduate certificate and an online master’s degree in shelter medicine, and is open to veterinary professionals, animal welfare professionals, students, and career changers interested in getting a start in shelter medicine or assisting local shelters with non-profit leadership issues.

The 9-credit graduate certificate course consists of three online courses covering topics ranging from how to recognize and manage infectious diseases in a shelter, collecting forensic evidence in a current investigation, preventing behavioral and welfare problems in large populations of animals.non-profit leadership, and more. It can be completed in as little as 1 year, and all nine credits from the graduate certificate can be transferred toward the online Shelter Medicine Master’s Degree, if admitted.

The 30-credit Master of Science in Veterinary Medical Sciences with a Concentration in Shelter Medicine is the first of its kind to be offered online, and is open to both veterinary professionals and shelter administrators. The degree can be completed from anywhere in the world in as little as two years.
