Jennifer Atkins, BS
Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program at the University of Florida
Jennifer has had a lifelong passion for animal welfare. She graduated with High Honors from Florida State College in 2008 with an Associate of Arts degree and is recently graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in pre-professional Biology. While employed at a local feline-only veterinary hospital, Jennifer provided after-hours care and assisted in the adoption processfor multiple cats. This included a cross country trip to re-home a paraplegic cat and train the adopter in rehabilitation. Over the years, Jennifer has also been active in the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-release of injured and abandoned wildlife. To help provide as many animals as possible the opportunity to live a safe and healthy life, Jennifer volunteers in rescue transports from overburdened shelters and is involved locally in community cat management and rescue. Jennifer supports the activities of the program through student record keeping, travel planning, scheduling, and reception services. Jennifer hopes to become an asset to the animal welfare movement and provide many more animals with a chance at love and happiness.
