Janet L Sosnicki,
Clinical Assistant Professor
About Janet L Sosnicki
Dr. Janet Sosnicki is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Shelter Medicine at University of Florida. As the Coordinator of the Shelter Animal Sterilization and Population Management Clerkship at Miami Dade Animal Services, she focuses on creating a supportive and safe learning environment in which students can develop their surgical skill set and knowledge of sheltering. Also, Dr. Janet strives to empower students to self advocate to prevent compassion fatigue and burn out.
In addition to clinical teaching, Dr. Janet’s clinical interests include access to care, high quality high volume spay/neuter, and animal welfare. Prior to becoming part of the UF Shelter Medicine Team she has worked in several animal shelters as the primary veterinarian, as an adjunct faculty at Tufts University, provided surgical relief at private practice clinics, and taught Anatomy and Physiology I for a Veterinary Technician program. She has also previously owned and operated an in-home euthanasia service.
Dr. Janet traveled to Thailand for the first time in 2017 as a study abroad instructor for pre-veterinary students. This was a life changing experience that combined her love of travel with her passion for helping animals. Since then she has returned to Thailand as a veterinarian volunteer, taught a training course in India to recent veterinary graduates, and most recently she has ventured to Myanmar and Ecuador.
Aside from her professional endeavors, Dr. Janet enjoys spending time with family, playing board games, dancing, riding her motorcycle, grilling, exercising, and doting on her furry children: Moby, brindle pit bull; and Peanut, a blond chihuahua.
