About Rachel Touroo

Dr. Rachel Touroo is the Senior Director of Veterinary Forensics for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She assists with crime scene investigations in animal cruelty cases throughout the United States and provides expertise onsite and during the subsequent stages of investigation and prosecution. Her role as a forensic veterinarian includes examining deceased animals and writing forensics reports, which can be critical to a conviction. Prior to joining the ASPCA in 2012 she was a forensic veterinarian for the Commonwealth of Virginia, where she provided training, resources and assistance to law enforcement throughout the state with investigations and cases with a primary focus on commercial breeders, animal fighting, animal cruelty, and neglect. Dr. Touroo has provided expert witness testimony on numerous occasions as well as authored guidance documents for animal control officers.
