    • The shelter medicine and surgery rotation is housed at the Capital Area Humane Society. Additionally, wellness care is provided to pets owned by homebound and homeless persons to the Columbus area. The CVM curriculum includes elective classes in animal disaster response, shelter medicine, and veterinary forensics. OSU is currently exploring both an internship and a residency program.

    • We offer a face to face course in veterinary forensics and a class in disaster animal response. We are associated with our Center for Animals and Public Policy. We have an on campus spay neuter clinic and an interest in community based veterinary medicine. We also host the Center for Shelter Dogs which is a research program focusing on shelter dog welfare.All Cummings students participate in our program through lectures and our spay neuter training. However we offer a variety of didactic and experiential courses for students with a strong interest in a career in the shelter or community medicine field.

    • Housing/facility design, welfare, population management to maximize life saving capacity, shelter consulting.Our student rotation is funded on a year to year basis, with unknown status for academic year 2017/2018 at this time. In the past, it has had a waiting list for students from UC Davis which has limited our ability to accommodate students from other universities. Students with a special interest in one of our areas of expertise are welcome to get in touch to inquire about other opportunities to interact with our team – we can’t promise anything as our schedules are unpredictable, but we are always happy to hear from you.

    • We are still in the early phases of developing and building the shelter medicine program. There are currently myself and one other shelter medicine faculty on staff. The other faculty has a mobile unit for spay/neuter and operates a 4th year clinical shelter medicine rotation ~4 mo out of the year. I am working to develop a stationary clinic at a shelter that will focus on HQHVSN. I also plan to create a student rotation that encompasses more aspects of shelter medicine and have students rotation with various areas of the shelter, along with teaching them surgical techniques for HQHVSN.
