Communications and Social Media Manager
Christie Keith is communications and social media manager for the Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at UF as well as the Million Cat Challenge, a joint project of Maddie’s Fund®, the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program at the University of Florida, and the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program.
Christie has worked as a journalist, editor, and communications and social media strategist since 1991. She now works exclusively in the fields of animal welfare and veterinary medicine. Her focus is on helping sheltering and veterinary professionals communicate more effectively through all available channels both within their own fields, across fields, and with pet owners and other stakeholders.
Christie lives in Michigan but is originally from San Francisco, where she was a pet columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle/SFGate.com and editor of CoastViews, a regional Bay Area monthly magazine. She began working with Maddie’s Fund in 2008, both in their communications department and as the social media manager for the Shelter Pet Project, the Ad Council’s public service advertising campaign promoting shelter pet adoption.
Other current and past clients include Fear Free, Dr. Marty Becker, Humane Network, the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), the Humane Society of the United States, VeterinaryPartner.com, Embrace Pet Insurance, Best Friends, and a number of veterinary professionals and organizations. Christie also serves on the advisory board of the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance and is a past member of the group’s Board of Directors.
